december 30, 2007

well, it suddenly seems very quiet around here after having a house full for the past week. it was a great christmas as always. it was even a white christmas this year. the williams family mountain of presents seemed even bigger than ever before. it was lovely to see everyone again. aly and toby had a great time with their cousins.

rock band for the xbox360 was the big hit of christmas - i think everyone but sascha's dad got involved. i had a go of drumming, guitar and singing [despite vowing never to solo in public!]. bon jovi's dead or alive was a favourite of the 'xmases' [our band name]. 2 of the virtual band members have even vowed to take up the electric guitar this year. it would be funny if the next time the xmases reunite the members could actually play real instruments!

we went geocaching for the first time today with my new gps [blackberry curve]. we didn't manage to find anything, but it was getting dark by the time we finally left the house [we're still on uncle pete's time zone where you're a wimp if you go to sleep before 3am and then don't get up until at least 1pm].

it was brunch with santa day today. toby was busy at a christmas bowling party with his hockey team so it was just aly and i. aly even did a spontaneous singing performance with a few of her other friends while we were there. it was a great brunch - it even had stuff i could eat which is a miracle. there were lots of crafts, santa read a story and then spent lots of time with each child. this is the first year since we've lived here that we've actually been in town for it. hopefully we'll be around for plenty more.

toby's hockey team is holding a moms versus kids hockey game next weekend. it's all a little scary - especially since all of sascha's family want to see toby play hockey and this will be the only opportunity while they're here!

the work at move went pretty well this week. my shoulders still ache from lugging around furniture and boxes but my office is starting to look like a room someone might be able to work in.

we've had lots of bits and pieces of snow lately which makes a lovely change from the usual drizzle.

saturday we watched aly as santa in a play which her drama class performed. she was fantanstic [and I'm not just saying that!] then we went to watch toby's hockey team play in the intermission of the vancouver giants yesterday which was a great experience. very exciting.

we are [finally] moving locations at work this week. it will be chaos but we've waited so long that i'm just excited it is finally happening.

aly became an official brownie the week before last. here she is posing in true aly style!

we had our first proper snowfall last night and today. it was a little inconvenient but a lot of fun :-) what a great way to celebrate december 1st. there was some snow last week but it didn't stick. we are at or below sea level here so we don't see a lot of snow and when we do it doesn't usually stick around. tragically, instead of being able to go to work to lock up after a birthday party i HAD to spend the afternoon scrapbooking with my friend, renukha, instead.

toby spent a long time secretly working on this chart last weekend. i was glad to see i had scored a 105 when it was eventually unveiled. apparently it 'expires in january'. i suppose i can be good until then! [do you think this is a sign i spent too much time making charts about my children?!]
