i'm devastated about the death of my ex-brother-in-law - andrew mcmillan. he was killed whilst riding his motorbike last week and leaves behind his two young daughters - one of whom is my goddaughter. it's so so sad and particularly tragic since it follows his mum's death to cancer just three months ago. the funeral is thursday 3rd and i'll be thinking of andrew, ste [his brother] and dave [his dad]. i wasn't sure whether to mention it on my site or not but it's had a big impact on me.

anyway, despite that i'll try to be upbeat...

july, 2003

i've FINALLY added our uk trip photos to the 2006 page, added a few more items to the links page and added an entirely useless useless facts inventory!

sascha has ABANDONED us for 5 days [californian for a meeting, a social, a movie, a concert and copious amounts for golf in my opinion ;-) ] so i'm going slowly insane. actually they haven't been bad at all. i miraculously managed to take them both for very slow haircuts yesterday in the best kids hairdressers i've ever been to. it doesn't really have many toys but has the crucial aly and toby ingredient - many tvs. it also had the cool chairs built into planes, cars and bikes. toby chose a very fetching barbie car and aly, much more tastefully in my opinion, choice a radio flyer byplane. if it wasn't for toby sitting in a hideous bright pink car i'd really be regretting not taking a camera. they both have shorter hair than they've had for years and i was very happy doing aly's hair in about 30 seconds rather than 5 minutes this morning. sascha's going to wonder where his children have gone when he gets home. for those keeping record aly is definitely potty trained by the way.

we're really getting into the swing of things here now. monday is our only free day - we go to the richmond family place on tuesday and thursday mornings, are going to go to parent's timeout on wednesdays and a parent and tot group at cambie community centre on fridays. i've also got a month's free pass to a local gym [which has childcare] so i'm planning on filling the rest of my time with that. think i'm going to focus on circuit training which is a bit of a shock to the system! i've volunteered to help out at the family centre so who knows what i'll get myself into there. i've finally got my act together and started scrapbooking again so hopefully you'll see the results online soonish [probably as soon as the printer/scanner cable arrives from california].

speaking of california, sascha is going back again. at least he's flying this time. i'm sending him with a pretty big list of things for him to bring back in his suitcase - between that and his golf clubs he'll hardly be able to move :-)

ok, i've decided to get into the whole blogness thing so here is my blog comment of the month:

July 10 3.46pm - had a nice cup of earl grey. earl grey always reminds me of damien drake because he introduced me to it at bluewave - unfortunately he did persuade me to drink it with milk though which is a bit uncouth

watching the parade
watching the canada day parade

HAPPY CANADA DAY [see, i'm getting into the spirit of this already - it's sascha who keeps getting confused and thinking it's on the 4th rather than the 1st!] - we went to the steveston salmon festival [oh those canadians and their fish!] for the day - unfortunately the famed salmon dinner was 10 dollars and a 45 minute line so we skipped it AND we seem to have missed the children's festival?! anyway, the children enjoyed the parade and fairground rides. aly was decidedly unsure about the fireworks in the evening but very patriotically used her canadian flag to cover her eyes!

we've decided steveston is the place for us. so we'll be house hunting there - it's a very cute fishing village which happens to have the best playground for miles around.

potty training is going well and aly is signed up for a great preschool in the fall - 2 days a week which includes ice skating and swimming lessons. toby is chatty as ever but has also been accident prone of late. in one day he managed to get a bee sting, cut his gum and scuff his knee. fortunately he's very brave!

we went to stay with the in-laws in victoria over the weekend and aly and toby both got to go horse riding with nikki and dani. toby also took to licking one of the three dogs back every time it licked him - eeeurgh.

back home
