aly was singing along to something weird on the radio the other day - maybe tainted love or an abba song or something. i'm not sure how she knew it, but there she was singing along. she will also happily sing along to songs on the radio, songs on cd etc. it got me wondering about what songs she will associate with being driven around in my car when she's older. maybe maroon 5, norah jones, greenday, bare named ladies, coldplay? For me, the moody blues, mamas and papas etc. remind me of my mum's car; pink floyd, the police, and snowflakes are dancing remind me of my dad's. but when do songs you hear on the radio become your 'era' not your parents. if aly and i are both singing along to a recently released song, then who has ownership? when she is my age will she look back on it as a song from her youth, or a song her mum listened to?
we're off to miracle beach at the weekend to meet up with aly who is camping with debbie, mark, amy, briana, connie, jenna and justin this week. i must remember to book a ferry and find our seldom-used tent.
i screwed up toby's daycamps this week. i thought i had him registered for half days of sportball but it turns out it was the older age group that i thought about registering him for that ran this week. anyway, after a lot of scrambling i found a half day badminton camp all week. it's just the sort of week it's been - sascha and i both forgot our wedding anniversary [thanks for the reminder mum!], i forget to go to yoga last week and nearly forgot to go this week [sascha reminded me just as I was finishing a HUGE meal]. summertime has scrambled my brain.
i went to a fascinating chinese wedding on sunday - my friend angie's from work. there's so much to write about and so many photos that i think it'll have to wait until my next entry.
recent quote from toby: mommy, you could just do it on the computer. it's smarter than you right?

so the updates are going to be few and far between. i'm neglecting unblog in favour of my new [complete] addiction, puzzle pirates. i'm pillaging my nights away as 'Acematey'. i'd forgotten just how obsessive a computer-gamer i can be.
i'm horrified to find that there is advertising appearing on our TIVO (DVR) menus. no i don't wish to find out about a new car or a trip to texas when i'm trying to choose which commerical-free show i want to watch. sascha and i have a pact to NEVER EVER click on one of the ad links [which means being very careful when scrolling through the menus]. curse those advertising execs!
we went go karting at the weekend much to mine and sascha's delight. the children enjoyed it but weren't nearly as excited as us. i think there's a huge amount of satisfaction in overtaking really serious teenage boys when you're in a double kart with a 5 yr old :-)
it's just started raining here after 2 weeks of hot hot hot. sascha finally persuaded me to get a portable air conditioner because none of us could sleep. i have to say, it did come in very handy. if i was a good little blogger, i'd have a nice little link to the actual air conditioner we bought, but i'm not, i'm an unblogger.

england was fantastic. quite strange to be without the children all that time. i started to miss them on the plane when we took off and nobody was next to me to shout 'yippee'. i originally had a seat next to a mother and her screaming 2 year old. when i sat down she said 'oh dear - you're the unlucky one'. i reassured her that i had children and understood. i was trying to decide whether the screaming was actually irriating or just a relief that it wasn't coming from one of my children. the child kicking me in the back was actually more annoying. anyway, my guardian angel of an air stewardess offered to reseat me. i wasn't so sure [i didn't want to make the mum with the toddler feel even worse], but she convinced me by pointing out that the child would be able to lie down if i moved. i moved to a much quieter seat further back and watched a couple of movie to pass the time [music and lyrics and wild hogs].
i had forgotten how much english people can drink. there was suddenly all this clinking of bottles and money around me and the wine was flowing. this was nothing compared to the drinking that started when i got there!
i got secretly picked up at the airport by my uncle stewart. there was just time to finish the scrapbook for my mum and take a quick nap when it was time to get into the gift box. needless to say, mum was very surprised and happy when she unwrapped me!
4 days of birthday parties ensued, along with some shopping, lots of scrabble, a drink with ana and a visit with chris, lynn and their latest addition - baby connie [very very cute].
now i'm back and just getting used to 30 degree temperatures after the non-stop drizzle of wimbledon week!
