we had a great weekend sailing last weekend. we pulled the children out of school at lunchtime on friday so was could sail over to saltspring island from vancouver island. dani was able to join us since she was camping on saltspring. she was a huge help as it's a little tricky when sascha and i are outnumbered by the children! it was not the best sailing weather since the wind direction wasn't cooperating but the weather was beautiful and zoe fortunately agreed to nap most of the way [she's not at all keen on being stuck in her life vest in the cockpit while we are underway].

we stayed at saltspring marina which was a nice little place with a great pub. we went to the saturday market to buy some goodies and had a lovely time exploring the beach, including a great old shipwreck. aly tried desperately to find a pearl in the oysters she found on the beach but didn't have much luck [which i'm hoping will mean an end to the slimy oyster smashing activities on future trips]. everyone got enough sleep [which was my biggest fear with 5 of us on a 27 footer] and after sailing back on sunday morning, we got the chance to spend the afternoon with sascha's dad on father's day - as well as introducing zoe to all the animals on aunty nikki's farm [she really took to the ducklings and casey the goat].

we had great plans for sailing this summer - with me only working monday to wednesday and sascha freelancing we could have done plenty of 4-day sails. unfortunately sascha accidentally got a new full-time job at a game developer which is really going to cut into our sailing schedule!

as i write this i'm at the hairdressers. i HATE spending money and time on hair. i was bored within 5 minutes and i'm going to be here at least 3.5 hours more. ugh.. thank god for technology. maybe i should have wrestled the ipad off sascha and zoe before i left home!

yuck – what a horrible horrible week. children are so generous when it comes to sharing gastroenteritis. toby got dragged home from school on wednesday with an allergic reaction that meant his eye had swelled completely shut [we think perhaps a cat hair in his eye?] and things just went from bad to worse from that point, with us all going down one by one. not only that but sascha and zoe followed up their gastroenteritis with a cold. the week had had such a promising start with the left arrowfamily place golf tournament which sascha and I somehow managed to win [perhaps due to the great random player who made up our foursome!]. it’s got me all inspired to try squeezing more golf into my life so i’m playing again this week.

toby's eye
poor toby's eye - although the way he looks is kind of how i felt for the rest of the week. all that money i spent on therapy for left arrowemetophobia was money well spent though!

june 2

well, it's june, and may's atrocious weather has carried through to june. we're hoping to go sailing this weekend and left arrowfamily place is having a charity golf tournament on monday so fingers crossed that things improved.

i'd forgotten what having a baby does to your brain - i get all excited when i see a dog or a bird out of the window and then i'm disappointed if zoe's asleep and missing it! i can tell zoe is the canadian born of the three - along with tucking her elephant and rabbit into bed, she tucked her mini hockey stick in the other day. she's also the outdoors one of the family which should bode well for the health of my garden full of veggies this summer since she's always begging to go outside and is a nightmare to get back in. she's at a lovely nuturing phase and takes very good care of rara the rabbit and her two dolls [which is a bit of a shock since nobody in this house has ever liked a doll before]. she can now say most of the things she signs, but she picks and chooses whether to sign or speak. when she doesn't think she's going to be able to repeat a new word that you're saying, she'll look enquiringly at you until you provide a sign.

life seems to be busy busy busy at the moment. school is winding down for the summer so there are a million events/field trips to squeeze into the last month, work has been busier than ever, sascha and i have been doing some web development for the first time in a while and then i have to squeeze in my daily left arrowfamily feud on facebook. [thanks A LOT to PJ and debbie p for that - like i had time for a new addiction after i'd finally managed to shake off bejeweled!]
