grandad 'helps out' by feeding zoe
zoe's favourite things to eat:
- her fist
- rice
- bath water
- barley
- purple tissue paper [which apparently her siblings think would be just fine for a baby to eat]
- butternut squash
- sweet potato
- oats
zoe has finally managed to roll from her front to her back. she's not ever very keen on lying on her tummy so it's taken a while to master!
she has moved a little away from holding people by the ears, but her new hobby is definitely hair pulling.

her first love has always been bouncing. we were very happy to get her a jolly jumper so that we could spend less time bouncing her on an exercise ball!

i've just realized that there's very little mention [or photographs] here of my other 2 poor forgotten children! i should probably do something about that.

zoe - all clean and ready for bed i always think she look a bit strange without her usual crazy fly away hair!

we've been having a lovely time with my mum and dad. it's amazing the difference it makes - i'm able to sit down for a cup of tea or a game of scrabble when zoe is napping because miraculously the laundry and dishes have been done.
we went to van dusen botanical gardens yesterday which was a big hit with everyone. the kids loved following the map, the maze and exploring the gardens and my dad and sasch were happy because there happened to be a british vintage car show on in the grounds. today my mum and dad have taken aly to the vancouver kids festival where i'm sure they're all having a lovely time.
zoe is starting to take steps when she is standing up with her full weight supported which is great because it means she can give some indication of the direction she would like to be going. generally it's heading straight for her big brother or sister who she absolutely adores. i'm just trying to persuade her that ears are not actually handles for moving people's heads since nobody is really enjoying that new found talent! she's just about lost her monk's bald spot across the back of her head. i did take off about an inch and a half from the back a couple of weeks ago after kellie pointed out that she had a mullet, but it's still growing like crazy.

another birthday party down. it was at a swimming pool and we were really impressed with the hour of facilitated activities in the pool. aly suddenly looks a lot older to me. being 9 was very significant because it meant that she no longer legally has to be in a booster seat in the car - something toby is a little miffed about! i know her being 10 next year is going to get me all freaked out! all in all it was a busy weekend with aly's actual birthday on friday, her party on saturday and mothers' day on sunday.

we celebrated mothers' day with a suprisingly peaceful meal at earls. we drove around the block a couple of times trying to get zoe to sleep before the meal and had finally given up, but miraculously she feel asleep as sascha carried her car seat into the restaurant - i couldn't have wished for a better mothers' day present! incidentally, i am LOVING having a car big enough to carry the 7 of us. there's something about driving 2 cars everywhere which used to drive me crazy.

zoe showing off her sitting-up-by-herself talents
there seems to be some demand for a photo of my new giant van - i'll have to try and remember to take one tomorrow. i fear the photo won't capture the 18 cup holders unfortunately [it's important to always have at least 3 cupholders each].
thank you so much to nikki and colin who came over last weekend to fulfill nikki's christmas present to us of a weekend of gardening. they managed to transform both the front and back gardens in just one day - both gardens fulfilling the very important criteria of bring extremely low maintenance since sascha and i are the world's laziest gardeners.
it's aly's 9th birthday at the end of this coming week and my parents are arriving on her birthday. i can't wait to see them and zoe is going to be excited to see them in 3D instead of on a computer screen on skype where she always seems very confused that she can't pull their glasses off their faces!
