mum and dad arrived last friday, and besides the fact that mum, aly and zoe have all had coughs and colds, we've had a lovely time. aly ditched us for the weekend - she's was camping in sechelt with guides [which i'm now feeling a little guilty about, given the fact she lost her voice while she was there]. meanwhile i've been force feeding everyone geocaching. it appears i'm a little obsessed. it does get us all out and about though - we spent some time picnicing/caching in terra nova rural park at the weekend, along with the much less-glamourous industrial beaches of triangle road. tomorrow mum and dad are heading off to dr. sun yat-sen classical chinese garden [somewhere i've intended to go for 9 years or so, but don't seem to have got around to, so i'll be very interested in what they have to say!]

aly's 11th birthday

between aly's sleepover birthday party on friday and mother's day and aly's 11th birthday on sunday, it was quite the weekend. i'm very glad i opted to do aly's party on friday night/saturday morning because after that, things really quietened down. on sunday we went to build-a-bear workshop at metrotown for aly and stopped off to do a quick geocache on the way for me. i also managed to squeeze in a fair bit of scrapbooking so a lovely weekend was had by all.

the sleepover [7 girls - what was I thinking] went pretty well. we did handmade pizzas [with sascha's pizza express dough recipe], played pass the parcel, bingo, did some beading and a few other crafts and they watched 2 or 3 movies. at around 1.30am, just as i thought we might all be awake all night, suddenly everyone was asleep - phew!

easter egg hunt

easter was a week ago. we went to the hamilton egg hunt [maybe the 7th year of the hamilton egg hunt!] and had a great time. unfortunately the easter chocolate is almost gone. the easter bunny was fairly frugal this year which means that the kids are onto my little nibbles of chocolate egg here and there [hey - i keep the nibbles even between all the children's eggs!] so i've had to go and buy up some discount chocolate. yum! i'm loving the way zoe exclaims 'CHOCOLATE!' each time she unwraps a chocolate egg as though it's a big surprise that there's chocolate in there!

colin and nikki, our annual gardeners, came this weekend and i now have a balcony full of edibles [herbs, potatoes, strawberries and carrots], along with a garden poised to bloom into colour any second [assuming i actually remember to water it]. what a lovely family i have :) let's hope the moles decide that this is a good year to move house. i counted the mole hills in the backyard the other day and there were 20 [and it really isn't that big]. we've had a couple of mole deterrent devices in the ground for the past couple of years. maybe they're attracted to them instead?

it's a general election in canada tomorrow. it's quite possibly the least exciting general election ever. there's barely been mention of the election between coverage of the royal wedding and now osama's death. i'm still torn between 3 parties. i might have to draw straws at the polls tomorrow. i'm open to bribes if any of the leaders are reading!
