the irish used turnips as their 'jack's lanterns' but when the immigrants came to america , they found pumpkins were far more plentiful than turnips more useless facts
vampire bats do drink blood, but they're not from transylvania. they live in central and south america and feed on cattle, horses, and birds more useless facts
so toby managed to knock aly's tooth out at afterschool care last week. as i walked up to the classroom to pick them up i could see toby sitting at a table by himself and figured something was up. when i got inside, aly was bleeding over the sink. aaah kids - who'd have them! aly freaks when she sees blood and hates losing teeth so she was a bit of a wreck. toby was suitably humble about the whole thing. [this all quite ironic when you look at my last post about aly's card to toby]. we've since requested to have them in separate groups in january! things have not been going well for toby lately. it's been a bit of a bad run at school and aftercare. oh well, there's always next year.
work is a little chaotic. we've moving locations dec 10th after 28 years in the same spot. needless to say - there's a lot of stuff to move and things to be sorted. we're also having a fundraiser tonight. roll on the christmas holidays.
sascha elfed us yesterday which is amusing me today :-)

we watched bridge over terabithia today. as aly said at the end 'that wasn't what i expected at all'. i completely agreed. it was very sad and never seemed to really get going. aly and i went to the movies to see 'the bee movie' last weekend which was much better. it would probably make the top 3 of children's movies i've seen this year [and believe me, i've seen A LOT].
strangely, we put our christmas tree etc. up last weekend [a long weekend for remembrance day]. sascha suggested it and since it's usually difficult to get him going on christmas until a day or 2 before, i leapt at the opportunity so here we are all ready for christmas. the cards are ordered and sascha and i are taking a day off work at the beginning of december to hopefully finish off the shopping [well at least that's MY plan!]
speaking of christmas, the children are ready to mail their letters to santa [which should get a reply if we post before the 2nd week of december]...
aly's:
To Santa, Can I please have this stuff. Can I have a Littlest Pet Shop Diary, Littlest Pet Shop black and white Bunny, Littlest Pet Shop hotel thing that comes with the seahorse, Ponyville Teapot Palace, my E pets the one that is the colour of my golden retriever and the Animal Alley 47" Jumbo Floppy Dog and 40" Jumbo Horse, and the Fur Real Butterscotch the pony. From Aly.
toby's:
Dear Santa, I would like the Spongebob Game for the Wii, a webkinz charm and a Vancouver [Canucks] shirt, I want a Webkinz. Love Toby.
finally, this is a very sweet card which aly made for toby on friday evening just because...
it would seem that toby really IS the best!

so halloween, the 'second best holiday of the whole year' [according to aly] has been and gone. aly was a bat, toby was spongebob. usually when i go to pick the children up from out of school care they are in the middle of something exciting - cooking, soccer, crafts etc. and there ensues a negotiation on how much longer they can stay [which makes me feel a little unpopular, but lessens the guilt of being a working parent!]. on halloween when i arrived to pick them up they were just about to decorate cup cakes. aly looked at me and said 'we're just going to the cupcake station'. she paused and then said 'don't worry, i'm coming right now. cupcakes - anytime. halloween trick or treating - once a year'. needless to say they had a great time :-)
aly the bat and spongebob toby ready for school
aly painted her own face. pretty impressive i thought
the candy haul
fireworks at hamilton
toby [instead of aly] was a little wary of the fireworks this year, but he was ok in the end
i was with toby at the local chinese restaurant the other day. the woman asked if toby would like a lollipop. i said sure. as i picked up my order a few minutes later she asked 'is that your little brother?'
'erm.. no' i said [a little taken aback] 'he's my son'.
'NO?!' she shouts 'erm.. yes' i said.
she couldn't look me in the eye after that. maybe i should stop dying my hair and start to let those grey hairs that keep cropping up show a bit!
