congratulations to sheela on the arrival of sean and debbie on the arrival of tosca

in breaking news i got most of my hair cut off. a major breakthrough for me. maybe i'm growing up. sascha says i look in my 20s now, so maybe i won't get ID'd here so much (legal drinking age being 19 in canada). toby likes it. aly says i look like somebody else's mommy but that she'll still love me while she's waiting for it to grow back and me?, i'm not sure.. i like it a lot more than i thought i would, but whether it'll remain short...?
aly with my hair!
by the way i've donated the 10 inches of hair that aly was waving around to:
eva & co. wigs
519 west pender street
vancouver, BC, V6B 1V5
they take 8" and longer. the hair goes towards making wigs for cancer patients. i believe locks for love is also good [a florida based organisation who take 10" and longer].
aly has a thing with death right now - she's pretty obsessed. i'm assuming it's just a phase since there's been nothing in particular to spark it off. however, in one of our many discussions on the topic i had to break it to her that nikki's poor old horse breezy had died so she wouldn't be able to ride her any more. this resulted in floods of tears throughout the day but she's ok-ish about it now.
except for a very nice 2nd birthday party for keetherna [with lots of traditional part games like "passing the present" [toby]], it's been a pretty low-key weekend for the most part which is what we all needed. toby and i have cough and cold number 2 of the season, but i'm not really sure whether the last one had actually ended. to that effect we're all off to get flu shots at EA this week. between my usual stomach problems being even worse and the prolonged coughs/colds, i don't feel like i've been healthy since the beginning of september.
anyway, on a cheerier note, here are a couple of pumpkin patch photos:
i love cranberry harvest time so i dashed out between rain showers one day last week to take some photos of the cranberries floating around just down the road from us! for those of you not in the know, they flood the fields at harvest time, pull the cranberries into one area of the field and then either fish or pump them out - very cool!

thanksgiving and helga's birthday went well. it was a remarkably traditional thanksgiving dinner courtesy of dani. we celebrated 2 days early but i've finally eased up on the whole needing to celebrate holidays and birthdays on the correct day thing - probably due to the fact the williams' celebrate christmas on christmas eve and we've always celebrated on christmas day [what with it being CHRISTMAS DAY and everything ;-p]
it was aly and toby's preschool trip to the most fantastic pumpkin patch yesterday and i went along as a helper [a ridiculous number of photos will follow]. i didn't have too many children fortunately - just toby, aly and aly's new boyfriend chuckie so those 2 were pretty happy holding hands. i helped out in the classroom on wednesday and as the 2 of them were having a tea party in the dress up corner i heard chuckie say to aly "here's your dress honey" [passing her a nice frilly number from the dress up box]
i feel like we've all been vaguely ill for about 3 weeks now and it's starting to get on my nerves a little. however, it's croptoberfest today so i will be scrapbooking my ails away!
did i mention we're planning to go to england for christmas this year for the first time in 5 years? [as long as the canadian government will let me back in the country of course]. i haven't felt this excited about a trip since i was 8 years old and headed for disneyworld for the first time :-) rumour has it that christmas dinner will be in my dad's sandwich shop since i've expanded the family so much we don't fit in anyone's house anymore!

one thing i got for my birthday which i didn't mention was my work permit and an 'in principal' acceptance of my permanent residence application. i might even have a web project to use my work permit for.
toby has had a cleverly timed cough and cold [since it meant he missed his immunizations]. due to him missing some school, i seem to have had an overload of children-time this week and not all of it could be described as quality time! this has probably not been helped by the fact he passed his cold onto me.
it's a little depressing that my next 2.5 weeks of time while the children are at school is already booked up with meetings :-( i still dream of spending the time scrapbooking though!
we're off to victoria tomorrow to celebrate thanksgiving [of the canadian variety of course] and helga's birthday.

aah. another year older. the root canal i had yesterday went surprising well. just some earache and a bit of a headache but no toothache so far. in fact, if sascha had given me our dental policy number instead of travel insurance number, all would have gone very smoothly. i also got to watch the latest [well - latest to canada] episode of emmerdale during the whole thing. who could wish for a better dental procedure?!
as predicted, september was an insanely busy month - hence the lack of updating but we were very sorry to see each of our visitors go.
at stanley park
over the weekend we took kellie, kenny, mum and dad to squamish via stanley park [and lots of fighting racoons]. [squamish is renowned for bouldering and inspired kenny to buy some new sticky shoes for climbing].
next was a tour of the EA campus for kenny and i, so i'm even more jealous than ever - especially after hanging out at the 'executive lounge' [ie. video arcade] for a while. finally, before kellie and kenny caught their coach to seattle on monday we all did 99c ikea breakfasts. in the afternoon after they had left toby kept asking "where dat other mom and dad go?"
tuesday i showed my mom the new scrapbook stores [almost next to each other] in richmond / ate at death by chocolate [which was EVEN more chocolate focused than i expected] / dance class for aly / mall for us / board meeting for me / date night for sascha and i to the casino where we couldn't help but win money - i even got a jackpot - it's just a shame i was on a 25c machine at the time! it was kind of a weird feeling coming out not having spent all our money, but it definitely has its benefits!
wednesday was cosco / failed trip to find some ice wine at a winery in ladner [which aly slept through and toby loved because it had tractors and trucks to play on] / beach in white rock where we threw some not-so-white rocks into the water
i've just waved my mum and dad goodbye and the children are a school so suddenly the house is eerily silent...
