my 10 year old FINALLY lost one of his front teeth - better late than never! mind you, i'm 38 and still getting my wisdom teeth so we know where he gets it.aly and toby suddenly seem so grown up. aly is over 5ft which means i'm now talking to her at eye level which gives me a different perspective somehow. of course aly and toby both still like to sneak in and watch preschooler tv shows with zoe when they don't think anyone else is looking which is quite reassuring really.
aly was selected to go to We Day today - it's a free the children organization which promotes youth leading global and local change. she has a huge heart, is so enthusiastic and has always wanted to make a positive difference in the world. she has come home full of ideas on how to raise money [so watch out if you live locally!]. i don't spend a lot of time boasting about my children, especially publically, but she has me bursting with pride and i'm so excited to see the person she becomes, because i'm convinced she will have a fantastic impact on the world around her.
walking home from school
mum and dad arrived today. unfortunately, we had to go to the drop-in medical clinic on the way back from the airport, followed by another long wait at the pharmacy. $150 later, the swelling on my poor mum's leg [an allergic reaction to an insect bite aggrevated by the flight] is starting to go down. of course, the meds in addition to the lack of sleep meant she pretty much went straight to sleep as soon as we [finally] got home. good thing the store with the pharmacy in it also had a diner or we might have all starved! fingers crossed tomorrow is a better day for them!

i realized that i forgot to mention the wonderful endless game playing that went on while my sister and mike were here. i don't usually have anyone willing to play risk with me! there was also an earthquake while they were here which was quite entertaining. i did feel one while we were in california but this one lasted a little longer.
school seems to be going pretty well so far. zoe has stopped crying every single day and now just throws in tears on the odd day to keep me on my toes. she really loves the work - she loves numbers [just like toby] and montessori is great for feeding that passion.
we finally got around to celebrating toby's 10th birthday last week. we took toby's friend justin, and cousin dani, to castle fun park [we seem to rotate through about 3 different golf courses for toby's birthdays]. after some golf and games, sascha and the children went go-karting. they had a fantastic time - i hadn't realized that they'd never been old or big enough to drive their own car before so it was quite a novelty.
