George and Eva were childhood friends - having grown up together in the same area of Liverpool. They were married, during the war, on October 26th 1940 [top] Marriage Certificate ![]() [left] Receipts from Eva's wedding dress and veil. The day she went to pick up her dress there was an air raid underway and she had to run from shelter to shelter to get to the shop! [top right] Excerpt of letter from George to Eva 1942.. ![]() [bottom left] George at his retirement party ![]() George worked for Lloyds Bank for 46 years - leaving only to join the RAF during the war. He worked his way up to Head Messenger. [bottom right] Eve sometimes helped to cook the meals at the bank and is seen here in the kitchen with George. They worked together at Lloyds for many years and were effectively the caretakers of the bank - living above both the Birkenhead and Moreton branches. [top right] Written on the reverse: "To my dear husband with all my love and best wishes for a speedy reunion. Eva xxx" Received Sept 9th 1943, Libya.
